School supplies

One more....then bed.

I went to W@lmart yesterday before class to get a notebook to take notes in for my class.

They were putting out school supplies.

I started to drool.

They had the cutest little composition books with little kitties and puppies on them. Oh...my...god....I could have bought ten...twenty... a hundred.

And those little pencil bags...I got a nice purple one.

Yeah, I know, I'm a nerd.

El Paso and the law

I ended up attending the AP Institute for Pre AP English. Right now, I'm in El Paso.

First things first, it is flooding in El Paso right now. I got rear ended in El Paso this morning. Nice accident with the school car. I was driving to UTEP this morning and people were breaking and stopping and slowing on the interstate. The car in front on me slammed on their brakes. So I hit mine.

Since I left space between the car in front of me and myself I didn't run into it.

However, the lady behind me did not.

Right in my back bumper.

In rush hour traffic on the interstate.

No damage to the school car except little scrapes, but her front end was crumpled.

I don't carry a cell phone, so we used hers. Except she would not talk to 911. She made me. She said she had a cold. I thought it was weird, because later she was talking on the cell phone.

Oh, and the school did not put the car registration and the insurance card was expired. I was lucky that the police did not haul me away. But the police officer was nice and let me go.

I'm surprised that I am not upset about it. I just went to my training and participated in class and really didn't worry or let me bother me much. I usually obsess about things...especially things that I perceived as my fault. But today I was calm. As I told someone, bad things happen. We just have to put our big girls panties on and get on with our lives.

(I wasn't hurt and never was she, Mom.)

A couple weeks ago I had another brush with the law back home. I got stopped for not wearing my seatbelt ....again. But this time the officer said to me, "You're a teacher here, right??" I said yes. He said, "I'm just going to give you a warning." I think he is not supposed to do that, so that was very nice of him.

And now I wear my seatbelt everywhere. :)

Not too busy, just tired

No, I didn't fall off the face of the earth.

It's not so much that I have been busy...Well, I guess I have been busy.

Weird story....

A couple weeks ago I joined the district's "laptop" committee. This is the committee that is examining our use and student's use of the laptops. We want to expand the use among the teachers and figure out how to stop kids from playing Halo on them and stop them from breaking them and on and on...

Well, somehow I became a co-moderator of the group. Which means that I take minutes and run our discussion board (I have already been flamed by Grouchy Teacher.)

I have already mentioned that the technology director of the school is a good friend of mine and that I'd like to keep it that way. She was very clear that she did not want to control the committee.

I posted the minutes of the last meeting to our discussion board. She emails that I need to come over to her office to "fix" them after summer school.

I really do not want to spend my afternoon redoing meeting minutes. So I redid them to make more sense and email them out again.

Still, she wanted her and I to work on rewording the minutes. And I thought she didn't want to have any leadership in this committee. I can't tell her to just leave it alone...I don't want to hurt her feelings.

So I email her and tell her that if she has any corrections to the minutes, she can post them on the discussion boards. I told her I wasn't blowing her off but I just didn't feel like working on them for a whole afternoon.

She emails me back and says it doesn't matter. She says that she knows I'm busy.

I wanted to email her back and say I am not too busy, I am just too tired. I think there is a difference.
